Tuesday, 06 November 2012 11:52 Kate Sweeney Cambridge clean technology companies have been handed a leadership opportunity in the nuclear industry. A new-build nuclear programme is planned for the UK and the Cambridge Cleantech organisation is staging a special event to help local players exploit it.
The Cambridge Cleantech Nuclear Special Interest Group (SIG) Champions’ inaugural event is being held at TWI on November 12 and technology trailblazers serving the nuclear sector are sharing their inside track knowledge.
Martin Garratt, chief executive at Cambridge Cleantech said: “The EDF nuclear sites at Sizewell and Hinckley Point are multi-billion pound investments.
“When added to the recent announcement by Hitachi for similar scale developments in Gloucester and north Wales, these developments provide a tremendous opportunity for cleantech companies in the region.
“Around 80 per cent of the development of the sites will be for non-nuclear goods and services and with increasing requirements to ensure sustainable development, then companies in cleantech sectors as diverse as building technologies, renewable energy and recycling can all potentially benefit.
“The Cambridge Cleantech Nuclear SIG is being championed by AVEVA, the University of Cambridge and TWI – all of which will have speakers at the inaugural event and recognise the importance of this expanding sector.”
The event runs from 5.30 to 8pm at TWI’s main building at Granta Park and speakers include Tony Roulstone from Cambridge University’s Engineering Department; AVEVA business development manager, Darren Duddy; and Chris Bagley, director of the energy generation & supply KTN at TWI.
