In spite of recent data indicating conditions remain tough within the UK's manufacturing industry, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the industry are still forecasting growth.
This is the claim made by the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS), which revealed smaller firms anticipate a rise in sales during the six months from October to March.
Those involved in manufacturing management may also be interested in data from the body showing that 41 per cent of businesses polled expect to increase investment in plant and machinery over the period in question and 38 per cent expect to spend money on new technology.
According to the latest quarterly SME Trends Survey from the Confederation of British Industry, production levels for smaller manufacturers fell over the quarter to October 2012, but firms expect activity will stabilise in the future.
Falls in both domestic and export orders are anticipated to level off and output increase over the coming months, despite challenging conditions and a disappointing slide in demand.
