Lean Training Course

Andon: Andon is a term from manufacturing that means a system used for notifying management, maintenance and other workers of a quality of process problem. An Andon system is a principle element in Lean approach.

Black Belt: Black Belts are official Team Leaders of Enterprise Wide projects. They form the first line of communication between Master Black Belts and Six Sigma Team Members, and Top Management and Six Sigma team members.

Bottleneck: Bottleneck is a process or a chain of processes where the capacity of an entire system is limited by a single or limited number of resources.

Changeover: Changeover is a process in lean that means the process of converting a machine from running one product to a different one. Quick changeovers in lean allow companies to move through an inventory flow.

Continuous Flow: Continuous flow in manufacturing means a strategy that is produced using JIT or Kanban production approach. In simple terms continuous flow is moving products from one system to other without separating them majorly.

ERP: Enterprise Resource Planning or ERP systems integrate internal and external management information throughout an entire organization. ERP systems automate various activities such as accounting, manufacturing, sales and so on using an integrated software application.

Genchi Genbutsu: Genchi Genbutsu literally means ‘go’ and ‘see’. In Lean approach, Genchi Genbutsu refers to a key approach used in problem solving. It means go and see the problem.

JIT: Just in Time or JIT is a popular lean operations practice. This is a Lean practiced principle that means materials should be delivered to the job site in the correct amount and at the correct time.

Lean Enterprise: Lean enterprise or lean manufacturing is an organization that engages in the process of waste elimination. In lean enterprise, the expenditure of resources for any set goal is considered as a target for elimination as compared to creation of value for customers.

OEE: Overall Equipment Effectiveness or OEE is a hierarchy of metrics developed by Seiichi Nakajima in 1960′s that measures the availability, performance efficiency, and quality rate of equipment.

Six Sigma: Six Sigma suggests reducing variations in a process. It is a standard approach and a measure of quality that focuses on achieving the state of near to perfection.

TQM: Total Quality Management or TQM as the terms suggests is a philosophy of management that pushes continuous improvement in the quality of products and processes.

TPM: Total Productive Maintenance or TPM is a maintenance system that addresses maintenance issues before they become major problems.
